Is Cadillac Going All-Electric?

What To Expect From Cadillac's Move Toward an All-Electric Lineup

Is Cadillac going all-electric? General Motors says the luxury brand is planning to go all-electric by 2030. In fact, it's the first GM brand to have such an ambitious goal toward an electric future. Part of it has to do with the brand's presence in China, which is massively important to GM and something that has gotten increasingly challenging in recent years.

The Lyriq Pulls Ahead

If you don't pay attention to new model releases, you might be asking: Does Cadillac have an electric car already? The brand debuted its electric lineup with the 2023 Lyriq. This is a mid-size, two-row crossover with an estimated electric range of 312 miles. It offers an even more elegant and luxurious interior than the current XT6 crossover. The starting price is around $60,000, but most Lyriq models sell for more thanks to a wide variety of options and extra features.

If you plan to visit your local Jeff Schmitt Auto Group Cadillac dealer in the near future, prepare to be wowed by the sheer degree of technology available in the new Lyriq. If you love tech, you'll love what Cadillac is offering here. The best thing is that even the most avid tech-lover still prefers some manual controls, and the Lyric has retained important hard buttons like air vent adjustment.

Some of the most interesting tech features on the Lyric include a front-end light show as you approach the car, a 33-inch curved display that faces the driver, and seat-adjustment levers available on the door.

Cadillac Electric Lineup

Currently, the Cadillac electric lineup consists solely of the Lyriq. After debuting as a 2023 model, the 2024 Lyriq is on the way. The Lyriq has done wonders in bringing buyers to the Cadillac brand. We're seeing around 80% of people ordering a new Lyric saying that they've never owned a Cadillac before.

Test-driving the Lyriq is a unique experience. The crossover EV boasts a composed and comfortable ride. The 33 inches of screen space is impressive in practical use. The 2023 Lyriq debuted last year, but only included one well-equipped trim. Now, the 2024 Lyriq is offering more trim options. There are three total trims and AWD is optional on the base trim, but standard on the Luxury and Sport trims.

In the future, Cadillac expects to debut an Escalade EV model called the IQ. Before the Lyriq, the Escalade can be credited as being the face of the luxury brand. The big SUV, usually in black, is a staple in the driveways of high-end housing developments across the country.

What's Next For Cadillac EVs?

GM is hoping to boost more sales for the Cadillac Lyriq now that a full range of trims has been released. But there's more on the horizon with the Escalade IQ EV and recently, the super-luxury Cadillac Celestiq EV was announced with an eye-popping $340,000 starting price to fully customize the car.

Needless to say, most buyers aren't heading for their Cadillac dealer looking for a car like that, but the Lyriq is a different story.
