The Jeff Schmitt Auto Group has the knowledge and the resources to facilitate your out-of-state vehicle purchase – no matter what state you’re from.
Here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions from our out-of-state customers:
Will current specials, rebates, or incentives apply to my purchase?
Our advertised pricing reflects any/all current Chevrolet incentives available to the Southeast Ohio region. There may be different incentives or offers available in other areas of the country. As such, pricing may vary.
Can I finance through my lender?
The dealership must receive any certified or wired funds before vehicle delivery. Unfortunately, any drafts, letters of credit, or funds being held cannot be accepted from out of state. Of course, we can offer you financing options as well.
What do I need to add insurance my vehicle?
You are required to provide the following: VIN and state-specific insurance, a state-issued driver’s license, and a copy of your state registration (if transferring your current license plate). Note: All items MUST match the address on your vehicle registration.
How do I sign the necessary documents?
You do not have to travel to us for document signing. However, due to proof of ID requirements, you will need to sign all documents in person with one of our Notary partners in your state of residence.
How do I get my vehicle?
Since your vehicle cannot be shipped to you, we can recommend third-party transportation options to you in good faith.
Can my vehicle be titled and registered outside of the State of Ohio?
Yes. However, you MUST obtain title and registration info specific to your home state. We can assist you Monday – Friday from 9 am – 4 pm (EST). Please note that additional time will be required to gather all info regarding taxes, fees, inspection and emissions requirements, and forms, specific to your home state. Because of this, you may not be able to take delivery of your purchase the same day.
What about my tax obligation?
Some states require us to collect sales tax on their behalf, while others will require payment when you register the vehicle. Our customer concierge team can assist you with questions about your specific state, please contact us for more information.
What if I am not in or returning to my home state after my purchase?
This should not be a problem unless your home state requires vehicle or emissions inspections before obtaining a vehicle title or registration.
Will I be charged any additional fees?
A few states cannot, or will not release info on local/city/state tax fees, sales tax, ad-valorem tax, or use tax. In this case, we would not be able to deliver your vehicle. Contact us to inquire about your specific state.
How long will I have to wait for my new registration?
If we have all the necessary documents, our goal is to complete vehicle registration within 60 days. However, time frames to process out-of-state titles and registration will vary from state to state. Processing time will be increased if your state requires emissions or state inspections, ad-valorem tax, or paid property tax-fees-assessment receipts.
